Willdan Group Inc. (NASDAQ:WLDN) shares rose 2.6% on Wednesday after the engineering and energy solutions company announced it had secured a $97 million energy savings performance contract from Alameda County, California.
Under the agreement, Willdan will design and implement large-scale energy and infrastructure upgrades across 24 county facilities, including electrification of HVAC systems, solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, EV charging infrastructure, and a variety of energy efficiency and decarbonization improvements.
According to the company, these upgrades are expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by approximately 1.7 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e). Willdan will also advise the county on external funding sources to help minimize out-of-pocket project costs.
“Willdan is proud to have been selected from a highly competitive field,” said Mike Bieber, Chief Executive Officer of Willdan. “These projects build on our 24-year history of service to Alameda County and demonstrate our ability to deliver creative and cost-effective approaches to modernize infrastructure, strengthen resilience, and achieve lasting energy and cost savings.”
The award extends Willdan’s decades-long partnership with Alameda County, where it has provided engineering, energy, and sustainability services for more than 20 years.
The deal underscores Willdan’s growing role in public-sector decarbonization initiatives, aligning with California’s broader goals to accelerate clean energy adoption and reduce emissions across public infrastructure.
