Cannabix Technologies Inc. (CSE:BLO) (USOTC:BLOZF) has taken a significant step toward commercialization of its marijuana breath testing technology after its handheld Breath Collection Unit (BCU) successfully passed electronic emissions testing required by U.S. and Canadian regulators. The milestone brings the company closer to launching its Marijuana Breath Test (MBT) system in North American markets.
The BCU, which works in conjunction with Cannabix’s proprietary Breath Cartridges, forms the core hardware of the MBT system. The device is designed to collect stable breath samples for detecting the recent use of marijuana, addressing a growing need for rapid, non-invasive screening tools in workplace safety and law enforcement environments.
The company confirmed that testing was conducted in accordance with FCC Part 15 requirements in the United States and the ICES-003 Issue 7 standard in Canada. Cannabix received an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited test report confirming compliance—an essential prerequisite for marketing and sale of electronic devices that emit radio frequency (RF) energy in both countries.
Testing was performed by QAI Laboratories in British Columbia, an FCC-designated Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB) and an internationally recognized ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab. This third-party validation strengthens Cannabix’s regulatory position as it completes the remaining steps needed for U.S. and Canadian market entry.
The MBT system combines Cannabix’s BCU and Breath Cartridge technologies with laboratory analysis using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), widely regarded as a gold-standard method in forensic toxicology. To accelerate commercialization, Cannabix has partnered with Omega Laboratories Inc., a global leader in forensic drug testing with more than 25 years of experience and multiple federal and international certifications.
Cannabix focuses on developing breath-based alcohol and marijuana testing solutions for workplaces, law enforcement agencies, and safety-sensitive industries. In addition to its cannabis testing platform, the company is also advancing its BreathLogix autonomous alcohol screening technology, aimed at improving safety, compliance, and real-time monitoring.
With the FCC and Canadian electronic emissions testing milestone achieved, Cannabix is now positioned to move closer to bringing its marijuana breath testing technology to market, addressing increasing demand for reliable and timely impairment detection solutions.
