Sigma Lithium Shares Jump After High-Purity Lithium Sale and Pushback on Media Claims

Shares of Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML) surged 14.1% in premarket trading on Friday after the company disclosed the sale of 100,000 tonnes of high-purity lithium fines at a price exceeding its previous transaction.

The lithium producer said the material was sold at market-linked pricing based on the Shanghai Metals Market index, resulting in an adjusted net final price of $140 per tonne for each 1% of lithium oxide content. By comparison, the current SMM benchmark price stands at $195 per tonne for 1.35% lithium oxide.

Sigma Lithium said the transaction represents a “green reward” for shareholders, attributing the outcome to investments in environmentally focused technologies at its Greentech facility. These initiatives allow the company to dry-stack tailings and recover additional value by recycling lithium through the sale of high-purity fines.

The company also reiterated that its mining remobilization program remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in January 2026, consistent with guidance previously issued on January 13.

In the same statement, Sigma Lithium pushed back strongly against recent media coverage that described an administrative review by Brazil’s Ministry of Labor and Employment concerning waste piles as an “operational injunction.” The company dismissed those reports as “fake news” and part of a “well-orchestrated and well-funded online defamatory campaign.”

Sigma Lithium said the administrative process was initiated in mid-December following a routine health and safety inspection and does not interfere with its ability to operate or carry out planned remobilization activities.

The company added that it has alerted relevant authorities, including FINRA, about what it characterizes as a coordinated defamatory effort that triggered significant volatility in its shares on January 16, when trading volumes exceeded four times the stock’s average daily turnover on Nasdaq.
