BYD reports sharp drop in March new energy vehicle production

BYD Company Limited (USOTC:BYDDY) reported on Wednesday that production of its new energy vehicles fell significantly in March 2026, declining 33.02% year over year to 300,399 units, compared with 395,091 units in March 2025.

Sales of new energy vehicles also decreased, dropping 30.01% to 300,222 units, down from 377,420 units in the same month a year earlier.

The company’s passenger vehicle segment recorded a 33.22% decline in production, totaling 295,412 units, while sales fell 30.13% to 295,693 units.

Within the category, battery electric vehicle (BEV) production decreased 30.42% to 148,666 units, with sales down 25.46% to 147,601 units. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) production dropped 35.36% to 146,746 units, while sales declined 33.54% to 148,092 units.

For the first quarter of 2026, BYD produced 708,037 new energy vehicles, representing a 33.02% decline from 1,057,079 units produced during the same period in 2025. Year-to-date sales reached 700,463 units, down 30.01% from 1,000,804 units in the prior year period.

In the commercial vehicle segment, production fell 19.20% to 4,987 units in March, while sales dropped 22.00% to 4,529 units.

However, the company reported growth in bus production and sales, both of which increased 27.68% to 663 units.
