Amentum awarded $425 million CAL FIRE aviation support contract

Amentum (NYSE:AMTM) has secured a $425 million contract from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to deliver aerial firefighting support services. The agreement runs for an initial three-year term and includes two optional extensions that could lengthen the partnership.

Under the contract, Amentum will coordinate the training, scheduling and deployment of approximately 350 pilots and maintenance personnel supporting California’s aerial firefighting operations. The company will also provide program oversight, training programs and operational support for the state’s fleet of specialized firefighting aircraft.

“Amentum brings advanced technical solutions, including AI-driven predictive maintenance, repair and overhaul services, as well as world-class logistics and deployment expertise to help the state safeguard communities and its economy,” said Dr. Karl Spinnenweber, president of Amentum’s Mission Solutions business.

The scope of the contract covers a wide range of aviation services aimed at keeping California’s firefighting aircraft fleet fully mission-ready. Amentum will deliver maintenance, repair and overhaul work, along with logistics and deployment support.

Spinnenweber highlighted the increasing demands placed on wildfire response efforts. “Today’s fire season is no longer seasonal. It’s a year-round battle that grows more dangerous with each passing year,” he said.

Through the agreement, Amentum will play a key role in supporting CAL FIRE’s aerial firefighting capabilities, managing both personnel operations and the technical upkeep of the aircraft used in wildfire response.
