Joby Aviation Shares Rise Following New York City Air Taxi Demo Flights

Joby Aviation (NYSE:JOBY) gained 3.8% on Monday after completing the first point-to-point electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi demonstration flights in New York City.

The company’s aircraft took off from John F. Kennedy International Airport and traveled across the city’s heliport network, including stops at Downtown Skyport as well as the West 30th Street and East 34th Street heliports in Midtown Manhattan. The flights linked both Lower Manhattan and Midtown to JFK in under 10 minutes, a significant reduction compared to typical car travel times of 60 to 120 minutes.

Federal Pilot Program Supports eVTOL Rollout

The multi-day demonstration is part of a federal eVTOL Integration Pilot Program created by executive order to help accelerate the commercialization of electric air transport. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey collaborated with Joby and the Federal Aviation Administration to facilitate the flights.

Expansion Strategy Builds on Blade Acquisition

Joby’s New York strategy builds on its 2025 acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s passenger business. Blade served over 90,000 passengers in 2025 and provides key infrastructure across Manhattan and regional airports, supporting Joby’s planned rollout.

Partnerships Target Airport Commute Disruption

The company is preparing to launch commercial air taxi services through partnerships with Delta Air Lines and Uber. The service is aimed at improving airport transportation, particularly in a city where commuters lost an estimated 102 hours to traffic congestion in 2025.

FAA Certification Progress Continues

Joby is advancing through the final مراحل of FAA certification and recently flew its first conforming aircraft under Type Inspection Authorization, a step that allows FAA pilots to begin official for-credit flight testing.
