Google expands Pentagon partnership with AI deal for classified operations

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has entered into a new agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense that allows the Pentagon to use its artificial intelligence models in classified work, according to a report by The Information, citing a source familiar with the matter.

Under the terms of the deal, the Pentagon is authorized to apply Google’s AI systems for “any lawful government purpose,” the report said.

A representative from Google Public Sector confirmed that the arrangement is an extension of an existing contract between the company and the Department of Defense.

The agreement deepens Google’s involvement with the U.S. military in the field of artificial intelligence, although details regarding how the technology will be used or the specific scope of the collaboration have not been made public.
