Anthropic reaches $965 billion valuation after fresh funding round, overtaking OpenAI

Anthropic announced on Thursday that it had secured $65 billion in new funding, lifting its post-money valuation to $965 billion as the artificial intelligence company accelerates investment in computing infrastructure, product development and the expansion of its Claude AI platform.

The latest fundraising cements Anthropic’s position among the most valuable private technology companies in the world and places it ahead of rival OpenAI, whose most recent post-money valuation stood at $852 billion following its funding round in March.

Investor demand fuels rapid valuation growth

The company’s valuation has surged dramatically in recent months. Since February, when Anthropic was valued at $380 billion, its market worth has more than doubled as investors continue to pour capital into leading AI developers.

The sharp increase highlights both Anthropic’s growing influence within the artificial intelligence sector and the intense competition among investors seeking exposure to companies at the forefront of AI innovation.

“Since our Series G round in February, adoption has continued to grow among global enterprise customers, and our annual quarterly revenue projection surpassed $47 billion this month,” Anthropic wrote in a blog post.

The company said the new capital will support efforts to expand computing capacity, helping it meet rising demand for Claude while scaling products and services across a broader customer base.

Race with OpenAI intensifies

Anthropic’s latest valuation milestone further raises the stakes in its competition with OpenAI, as the two companies vie for leadership in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence industry.

Both groups are investing heavily in infrastructure and model development, with access to large-scale computing resources becoming increasingly critical as AI systems grow more complex and demand from enterprise customers accelerates.

The funding round underscores investor confidence that Anthropic can continue expanding its market position while competing directly with some of the most influential players in the sector.

Public market ambitions come into focus

Anthropic’s fundraising efforts are taking place as the company reportedly prepares for a future stock market debut.

According to investors and bankers familiar with the matter, Anthropic is exploring plans for a public listing, joining a growing number of high-profile AI companies considering an eventual move to public markets.

OpenAI is also reported to be evaluating a stock market flotation, with both companies potentially pursuing listings as early as this year.

Accessing public capital markets could provide the substantial financial resources required to fund future infrastructure investments, secure additional computing power and support the training of increasingly advanced AI models.

As competition intensifies across the sector, the ability to raise capital at scale is becoming a key strategic advantage, positioning Anthropic and OpenAI for an increasingly high-stakes battle for leadership in the global artificial intelligence market.
