Elon Musk is set to make a virtual appearance at a technology event hosted by semiconductor equipment leader ASML on Thursday, where he is expected to discuss Terafab, his proposed large-scale semiconductor manufacturing project designed to supply chips for Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX).
The appearance comes as investors await the pricing of SpaceX’s initial public offering, which is expected later on Thursday and could become the largest IPO ever completed.
Focus on AI, Robotics and Chip Production
According to ASML, Musk’s presentation will cover a range of emerging technologies and long-term industrial ambitions.
“Musk will share his vision on AI, robotics, space, and semiconductor manufacturing,” an ASML spokesperson said in a statement.
ASML described the gathering as its annual one-day technology conference, an event reserved exclusively for employees. The company declined to disclose the exact timing of Musk’s appearance, although the conference is scheduled to conclude at approximately 5 p.m. (1500 GMT).
Terafab Could Become Major ASML Customer
Interest in the event is heightened by the growing attention surrounding Terafab, Musk’s proposed semiconductor manufacturing venture.
Last month, ASML Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet confirmed that discussions had taken place with Musk regarding the project. If developed as planned, Terafab could become a significant customer for ASML, which is Europe’s most valuable listed company by market capitalisation.
ASML dominates the global lithography equipment market, supplying the advanced systems used to transfer microscopic circuit designs onto semiconductor wafers.
SpaceX and Intel Expected to Support Project
Musk has previously stated that SpaceX intends to work alongside Intel on the Terafab initiative, with the long-term goal of producing chips for both SpaceX operations and Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots.
In March, Musk outlined plans for an initial development facility in Texas that would manufacture lithography masks, which contain the circuit patterns used in semiconductor production through ASML equipment.
The facility is intended to accelerate the prototyping of both logic and memory chips by bringing key manufacturing processes together under a single roof.
Growing Role in the Semiconductor Industry
ASML suggested that Musk’s ambitions are drawing him deeper into the global semiconductor ecosystem and creating opportunities for collaboration across the industry.
“Musk and his team are becoming part of the broader semiconductor ecosystem, and many companies, including ASML, will collaborate on this initiative,” ASML said.
The comments underline the potential strategic significance of Terafab as demand for advanced chips continues to rise across artificial intelligence, robotics and aerospace applications.
Musk Praises ASML Ahead of Conference
Musk has also publicly expressed admiration for ASML and its position within the global technology supply chain.
In a post published on X on June 6, he described ASML as “arguably the greatest company in Europe” and said it should be “treasured and supported.”
His remarks highlight the growing relationship between his technology ventures and one of the semiconductor industry’s most important equipment suppliers as SpaceX prepares for its landmark public listing.
