Pfizer Shares Slip Following CFO Transition Announcement

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) shares edged lower on Thursday after the pharmaceutical giant revealed that Chief Financial Officer Dave Denton will step down from his position and leave the company in August.

The stock fell 1.7% after investors digested the leadership change, which comes as Pfizer continues to navigate a period of strategic transformation and integration following several major acquisitions.

Dave Denton to Depart in August

Pfizer said Denton will leave the company on August 15 to pursue a professional opportunity outside the pharmaceutical sector within the consumer goods industry.

The company noted that the departure is not related to any operational or financial issues and thanked Denton for his contributions during a period marked by significant corporate activity.

Cecile Guegan Appointed Interim CFO

To ensure continuity, Pfizer has named Cecile Guegan as Interim Chief Financial Officer effective August 16.

Guegan currently serves as Senior Vice President, Finance, Global Biopharmaceutical Business, and will assume responsibility for the company’s financial organization while a search is conducted for a permanent successor.

Pfizer said it will undertake a comprehensive review of both internal and external candidates before making a final appointment.

Denton and Guegan are expected to work closely together during the transition period to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

Leadership Praises Denton’s Contributions

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla highlighted Denton’s role in maintaining the company’s financial strength during several transformative transactions.

According to Bourla, Denton served as a steady steward of Pfizer’s financial health while helping oversee major acquisitions, including Seagen, Biohaven and Metsera.

His tenure coincided with a period of significant portfolio expansion and strategic investment across the business.

Veteran Finance Executive Takes the Helm

Guegan brings more than 20 years of experience within Pfizer and has held a variety of senior finance leadership positions across the organization.

Her background includes oversight of financial operations in multiple therapeutic areas, research and development activities, and international markets.

In her current role, she manages the financial reporting and operations of Pfizer’s global biopharmaceutical business across all therapeutic categories and geographic regions.

The company believes her extensive institutional knowledge will support stability during the leadership transition.

Denton Expresses Confidence in Pfizer’s Future

Reflecting on his departure, Denton described his time at Pfizer as a privilege and expressed confidence in the company’s leadership team.

He said it had been an honor to work at Pfizer during a significant chapter in the company’s history and noted that the organization remains well positioned for the future.

With an interim successor already in place and a formal search process underway, Pfizer is aiming to ensure continuity as it advances its long-term growth strategy and integration efforts across its expanding portfolio.
