US Futures, European Stocks Rise

In the U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.4% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.3%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.6% in morning trading. Vistry Group rose 13.2% and Uniper rose 3.6%. On the other hand, Alfa Laval slipped 3.2%, and alstria office REIT lost 2.7%. The FTSE 100 added 0.6%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France’s CAC 40 gained 0.6% and Germany’s DAX climbed 0.4%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index dropped 0.6% to 98.87.

In commodities, Brent crude fell 0.2% to $90.51 a barrel, and WTI crude dropped 0.5% to $87.11 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 2 basis points to 2.63% from 2.613%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 2 basis points to 4.288% from 4.271%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan’s Nikkei 225 index declined 0.4%, whereas Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 0.9%. China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 0.8%.
