Navitas Semiconductor Shares Drop After Wolfspeed Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit (NVTS)

Navitas Semiconductor (NASDAQ:NVTS) shares fell 7% on Wednesday morning after Wolfspeed (NYSE:WOLF) filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the company in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.

According to the complaint, Wolfspeed alleges that a wide range of Navitas products infringes several of its patents, including U.S. Patent Nos. 8,169,005, 10,998,418, 10,886,396, 10,749,443 and 11,888,392.

The products named in the lawsuit include several of Navitas’ core product families, such as its gallium nitride (GaN)-based field-effect transistors, including the GaNFast, GaNSlim and GaNSafe ranges, along with the company’s GeneSiC MOSFETs and SiCPAK power modules.

Wolfspeed said it has built decades of expertise and innovation in silicon carbide materials, gallium nitride transistors, and silicon carbide-based MOSFETs and power modules.

“Wolfspeed’s foundational technology helped create this industry, and we are deeply committed to defending the intellectual property that represents decades of innovation and R&D investment,” said Robert Feurle, Wolfspeed’s chief executive officer. “Protecting our patent portfolio is a strategic priority for the company and our shareholders. This action reflects our commitment to enforcing our rights and protecting continued investment in next-generation SiC and GaN technologies.”

The legal action marks the latest intellectual property dispute in the power semiconductor industry, where demand for advanced silicon carbide and gallium nitride technologies continues to grow across electric vehicles, industrial applications and AI-related infrastructure.
