Outlook Therapeutics (NASDAQ:OTLK) shares rose approximately 8.9% in pre-market trading as investors continued to react positively to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval of LYTENAVA (bevacizumab-vikg) for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD).
The FDA granted approval on July 24, two business days ahead of the scheduled July 29 PDUFA target date, marking a major milestone for the biotechnology company.
The decision makes LYTENAVA the first and only FDA-approved ophthalmic formulation of bevacizumab for wet AMD in the United States. The approval follows multiple regulatory reviews, including a successful formal dispute resolution appeal earlier this year that enabled the company to resubmit its application without conducting additional clinical studies.
Analyst upgrade strengthens investor confidence
Momentum in the shares was reinforced after BTIG upgraded Outlook Therapeutics from Neutral to Buy and assigned a $4.00 price target.
The brokerage highlighted the approximately $8.5 billion U.S. anti-VEGF retinal treatment market as a significant commercial opportunity for the company.
Analyst sentiment had already been positive, with the consensus 12-month price target standing at $5.50, implying further upside from current trading levels.
The company has also recently regained compliance with Nasdaq’s minimum bid price requirement after maintaining a share price above $1 for ten consecutive trading sessions, removing a listing concern that had weighed on investor sentiment for much of the year.
Positive market conditions support biotech rally
The broader market provided an additional boost, with the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq all posting gains as investors continued to favour higher-risk growth stocks, including small-cap biotechnology companies.
Outlook Therapeutics has already begun commercialising LYTENAVA outside the United States following approvals in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom, while management expects to launch the product in the U.S. before the end of 2026.
Commercial execution remains the next challenge
The combination of early FDA approval, a favourable analyst upgrade, improved Nasdaq listing status and stronger market sentiment has helped extend the stock’s post-approval rally.
However, investors continue to monitor the company’s ongoing financial losses, available cash resources and its ability to successfully establish a commercial sales infrastructure in the United States ahead of the planned product launch.
