Fluence Energy Shares Surge After UBS Upgrades Stock to Neutral

Fluence Energy (NASDAQ:FLNC) shares jumped 8.7% in pre-market trading after UBS upgraded the energy storage company to Neutral from Sell and raised its price target to $12.00 from $9.00.

The change represents a significant shift in stance from one of the more bearish institutional analysts covering Fluence. UBS reassessed its outlook following a period of heavy selling pressure that had pushed the stock sharply lower after the company’s recent earnings.

UBS Forecasts Strong Long-Term Revenue Growth

A key factor behind the upgrade was UBS’s revised financial model, which now forecasts Fluence Energy revenue growing at a five-year compound annual rate of 22% through 2030.

The bank expects increasing demand for battery storage, particularly within hybrid projects combining solar generation with energy storage, to support the company’s longer-term expansion.

UBS also revised its adjusted EBITDA forecasts for fiscal 2026, 2027 and 2028. Importantly, the bank concluded that some revenue previously expected in the current financial year had been delayed into the following period rather than permanently lost.

That distinction appears to have improved investor confidence in the company’s longer-term earnings potential despite near-term execution challenges.

Analyst Sentiment Had Weakened Following Q3 Results

The UBS upgrade follows a difficult period for Fluence Energy shares after the company’s third-quarter earnings miss in early August.

Several brokers, including Morgan Stanley, Roth Capital and Citi, subsequently lowered their price targets, while GLJ Research added further pressure with a downgrade on August 20.

The sequence of negative analyst revisions contributed to substantial weakness in Fluence shares. The stock has traded as low as $6.60 over the past year, significantly below its 52-week high of $33.51.

Against that backdrop, UBS’s decision to remove its Sell recommendation represents a notable improvement in institutional sentiment towards the company.

Broader Market Gains Support Fluence Energy Rally

The wider U.S. equity market also provided a favourable environment for the pre-market rebound, with the S&P 500 gaining 0.4% and the Nasdaq advancing 0.8%.

However, the scale of Fluence Energy’s 8.7% advance suggests the UBS upgrade was the primary catalyst behind the move.

The combination of a higher $12 price target, expectations for strong long-term revenue growth and UBS’s view that delayed revenue has been postponed rather than lost helped investors reassess the stock following its recent decline.

With Fluence still trading substantially below its 52-week high, the removal of UBS’s Sell rating has provided an immediate boost to sentiment as investors weigh near-term challenges against the longer-term growth opportunity in battery energy storage.
