Photronics Q3 Revenue Rises 2.7% as High-End IC Business Reaches Record Mix

Photronics returned to sequential revenue growth as previously delayed semiconductor design releases recovered, while high-end integrated circuit photomasks reached a record share of the company’s IC business.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Photronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLAB) reported Q3 fiscal 2026 revenue of $216.0 million, up 2.7% year over year and 2.9% sequentially.
  • IC revenue increased 5% from both the prior year and previous quarter to $154.7 million, while high-end products reached a record 44% of total IC revenue.
  • GAAP diluted EPS rose to $0.49 from $0.39 a year earlier but declined from $0.54 in fiscal Q2.
  • Operating cash flow reached $76.3 million, compared with $37.0 million invested through capital expenditures during the quarter.
  • Fiscal Q4 guidance calls for revenue of $207 million to $227 million and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $0.40 to $0.56.

Why PLAB Stock Is in Focus

Photronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLAB) reported fiscal third-quarter revenue of $216.0 million, reflecting growth from both the year-earlier period and fiscal Q2 as semiconductor demand recovered from some of the design-release delays experienced during the previous quarter.

The IC business led the improvement, generating $154.7 million of revenue, up 5% both year over year and sequentially. High-end IC products accounted for a record 44% of total IC revenue, which management linked to high semiconductor fab utilization and continued migration toward more advanced nodes.

Flat panel display revenue moved in the opposite direction, falling 2% year over year and sequentially to $61.4 million.

GAAP net income attributable to Photronics shareholders reached $28.9 million, or $0.49 per diluted share. That compared with $22.9 million, or $0.39 per share, a year earlier and $31.4 million, or $0.54 per share, in fiscal Q2.

On a non-GAAP basis, net income was $29.4 million, or $0.50 per diluted share. Earnings per share were slightly below the $0.51 reported a year earlier but improved from $0.42 in the preceding quarter.

Why This Matters for Investors

The key development is not simply the modest increase in consolidated revenue, but the changing mix within Photronics’ semiconductor business.

High-end IC products reaching 44% of IC revenue suggests the company is gaining greater exposure to more advanced semiconductor manufacturing requirements. Management said its investments in the United States and Korea remain on schedule as Photronics works to strengthen its position in the high-end segment.

Chairman and CEO George Macricostas said: “We are pleased to recognize a recovery of some of the temporarily delayed semiconductor design releases that occurred back in our fiscal Q2. Continued high fab utilization rates throughout the industry have been a positive influence toward node migration trends, resulting in a record percentage for our high-end I.C. business at 44% of total I.C. revenue. Our investments in the U.S. and Korea remain on track as we continue to strengthen our position at the high end of the market over the coming years.”

Cash generation also provides context for the company’s expansion strategy. Photronics generated $76.3 million from operating activities during Q3 while spending $37.0 million on capital expenditures for organic growth.

Quarter-end cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totalled $672.8 million, although $503.5 million was associated with joint ventures in which Photronics owns 50.01%.

What to Watch Next

For fiscal Q4, Photronics expects revenue between $207 million and $227 million. The midpoint of $217 million would represent a modest increase from Q3’s $216.0 million.

The company is forecasting an operating margin of 19% to 24%, while non-GAAP diluted EPS attributable to Photronics shareholders is expected to range from $0.40 to $0.56.

Investors may also watch whether the high-end IC revenue mix remains elevated and whether continued node migration supports further semiconductor photomask demand, alongside progress on the company’s US and Korean investments.
