AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) announced on Tuesday that the European Commission has approved Rinvoq (upadacitinib) for the treatment of active polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
The approval covers children aged two years and older who have had an inadequate response to one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
Rinvoq Expands Its Approved Uses in the EU
The decision extends Rinvoq’s approved indications in the European Union to include polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a form of inflammatory arthritis affecting children.
Rinvoq is already authorised in the EU for several inflammatory conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and atopic dermatitis.
The latest approval broadens the treatment options available to eligible children whose condition has not responded adequately to previous disease-modifying therapies.
