bioAffinity Technologies (NASDAQ:BIAF) will present new clinical findings on its noninvasive lung cancer test, CyPath® Lung, at the 2026 NAVREF Annual Conference, running September 27–30 in Arlington, Virginia. The company is set to unveil two posters focused on the test’s use in veteran and military healthcare settings.
The National Association of Veterans’ Research and Education Foundations (NAVREF) conference gathers officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs, VA-affiliated research groups, academic institutions and industry partners working on veteran health issues. bioAffinity belongs to NAVREF’s Industry Partner Consortium.
At the event, company representatives will appear alongside AvMEDICAL, bioAffinity’s newly announced distribution partner, marking the first joint appearance by the two companies before the federal healthcare market.
A Growing Need
Lung cancer poses a persistent threat to veterans, with the VA reporting roughly 7,700 new diagnoses annually among that population. Maria Zannes, bioAffinity’s President and CEO, said expanded VA screening efforts have led to more lung nodules requiring evaluation, and that CyPath Lung could help by offering clinicians real-time data on nodules identified through imaging.
What the Posters Show
The first poster, titled “CyPath® Lung in Practice: From Uncertainty to Clarity and Confidence,” walks through three clinical cases involving complicated, high-risk patients with indeterminate pulmonary nodules. It describes how combining CyPath Lung with standard diagnostic tools — including low-dose CT scans, PET imaging, risk modeling and blood tests — helped doctors reach faster diagnoses, navigate difficult conversations with patients, and in some cases avoid invasive procedures.
The second poster details an ongoing 2,000-patient study called FlowPath™ Lung, which is examining the test’s performance specifically in veteran and military populations. The study spans 12 VA medical centers and two major military hospitals, with support from the John P. Murtha Cancer Center Research Program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Though branded differently for research purposes, the FlowPath Lung test is identical to the commercial CyPath Lung product.
The poster also highlights the test’s at-home sputum collection method, which spares patients a trip to a VA facility, and cites earlier results showing 92% sensitivity, 87% specificity and a 99% negative predictive value in patients with nodules 20 millimeters or smaller — though the company cautions these figures may not carry over to broader populations. A separate 2024 economic analysis by pulmonologists at Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center estimated the test could save thousands of dollars per patient and hundreds of millions of dollars system-wide in cancer screening and diagnosis costs.
About the Technology
CyPath Lung uses flow cytometry combined with proprietary AI to detect malignant cell populations in patient sputum samples, relying on a fluorescent compound that concentrates in cancer-related cells. It is offered as a Laboratory Developed Test through Precision Pathology Laboratory Services, a bioAffinity subsidiary, and is intended to supplement — not replace — other clinical diagnostic methods.
