Nasdaq Launches Agentic AI Environment for Calypso Capital Markets Platform

Nasdaq (NASDAQ:NDAQ) has launched an agentic artificial intelligence operating environment within its Nasdaq Calypso capital markets and treasury platform, allowing financial institutions to deploy and connect AI agents across trade lifecycle workflows.

The environment, announced on September 29, 2026, is built on the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, an emerging standard for connecting AI agents with software systems.

Nasdaq said clients will be able to access AI agents provided through Calypso while also connecting their own AI infrastructure through an integrated layer.

Platform Includes Data and Security Controls

The environment uses sandboxing with no external data retention and provides live oversight designed to keep AI agents within an institution’s policies and data perimeter, according to Nasdaq.

The initial launch includes a natural-language assistant that allows users to query trading, risk and collateral data held within the platform, as well as documentation.

Nasdaq said it intends to introduce additional agentic workers designed to automate or reduce manual processes across capital markets workflows.

The agents will be hosted by Nasdaq and delivered through a cloud environment built on Amazon Bedrock. Clients operating Calypso on-premises will also be able to connect to the agents.

Nasdaq Expands AI Capabilities Across Trade Lifecycle

“For institutions to adopt AI agents at scale, they need a trusted, governed infrastructure inside the capital market platforms they already run,” said Magnus Haglind, Head of Capital Markets Technology at Nasdaq. “By integrating agentic capabilities and serving as the orchestration layer, we are evolving Nasdaq Calypso from a system of record into an intelligent platform that automates activity at every stage of the trade lifecycle.”

Nasdaq Calypso is used by banks, brokers, asset managers and central banks for capital markets and treasury operations.

The company did not provide pricing information or financial guidance associated with the new AI environment in the supplied material.

Survey Highlights Manual Post-Trade Processes

A survey conducted by Nasdaq and Acuiti found that nearly half of respondents identified manual intervention as a challenge in post-trade operations.

The survey also found that 56% of respondents believed they risked losing competitive ground if they did not integrate AI or machine learning into clearing operations.

The findings represent respondents’ views rather than measured financial or operational outcomes from adopting AI technology.

The Calypso launch follows other AI deployments across Nasdaq’s technology platforms. These include an agentic AI workforce within Nasdaq Verafin, which the company said is used by more than 800 clients, and AI-powered regulatory reporting capabilities within Nasdaq AxiomSL.
