Canadian Solar Unit to Supply 100 MW Battery Storage System in Australia

Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ) said its energy storage subsidiary, e-STORAGE, has signed an agreement to supply and commission a 100 MW/200 MWh battery energy storage system for OX2’s Muswellbrook Solar Farm and Battery project in New South Wales, Australia.

The system will use e-STORAGE’s SolBank 3.0 battery containers alongside Power Conversion Systems, plant controls and the company’s EQ-S Energy Management System.

e-STORAGE will also provide a hybrid power plant controller to coordinate the battery storage system with the co-located solar farm. The company will be responsible for overall system integration and commissioning.

Shipments Scheduled to Begin in Third Quarter of 2027

Shipments for the project are scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2027, with commercial operations targeted for the third quarter of 2028.

Canadian Solar said the battery cells and SolBank system will be manufactured at its own facilities.

The agreement also includes a 20-year long-term service arrangement covering hardware, software and system performance.

Project Located at Former Coal Mine Site

The Muswellbrook project is located approximately 2.5 kilometres east of Muswellbrook on land at a former coal mine within the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone.

Once operational, the battery system will support a long-term hybrid power purchase agreement that OX2 has signed for the project.

“Australia’s energy transition is being decided in regions like the Hunter, where storage now has to carry the load that retiring coal once did. We control this project from the cell through to our own energy management software and 20 years of service, which means OX2 has one partner accountable for how the system performs over its full life,” said Jeff Roy, President of e-STORAGE.
