US Futures Edge Down, European Stocks Mixed

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.1% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 was flat in morning trading. MorphoSys rose 12.5% and Uniper climbed 10%. On the other hand, THG dropped 3%, and NEL sunk 2.8%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.3%. Other stocks in Europe were mixed as France’s CAC 40 gained 0.1% and Germany’s DAX held steady.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index rose 0.2% to 98.28.

In commodities, Brent crude rose 0.7% to $76.38 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.7% to $71.76 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield was flat at 2.278%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 3 basis points to 4.261% from 4.23%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan’s Nikkei 225 index climbed 1.5%, whereas Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 0.8%. China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 0.7%.
